Stacey Hobbs

I am an artist based in Buckinghamshire, UK.

My first venture in art began with painting organic forms and portraits, I would enjoy using both gouache and acrylic mediums.

Over the past few years, I have been using Caran D’Ache colour pencils to create pet and animal portraits, which has been a fun experience for me, finding my true interest(s). Alongside my illustration study’s, I use my own captivating photographic references gathered mostly when out on trips, to inspire my drawings which range in size depending on my subject matter. I launched my website at the beginning of this year to showcase my work which was an exciting achievement for me. I currently enjoy doing commissions for family and friends which are mainly animal-based however recently I have had human portrait requests too. I hope to branch my artwork out further, further inspire and reach a wider audience.

Medium of Artwork

Pastel Pencil on Paper

Commentary on Artwork

This was one of my first dog portraits completed using Caran D’Ache colour luminance pastel pencils in 2020. Despite the many hours, it took layering up the fur detail, this is one of my most loved pieces of work. Slightly bias due to the fact he is my dog too.

Medium of Artwork

Pastel Pencil on Strathmore Grey Paper

Commentary on Artwork

This was a piece I commissioned for my great Aunt of her beloved Bichon, Lottie. This piece was a breakthrough for me as this was the first time I used grey paper against a lot of white in a piece, it really makes the subject matter pop.

Swan Portrait

21 x 29.7 cm

Medium of Artwork

Pastel Pencil on Strathmore Grey Paper

Commentary on Artwork

This piece was one of my first wildlife drawings on grey paper, again I love the ability the darker background has in pushing the work forward and giving it form. The subtle use of colours and little details such as the water droplets add to the quality and realism.
